Cast Every Care

"...casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7

Does God really mean cast every care? Like every detail? Sometimes we glaze over the scripture that invites us, as children of God, to cast our cares on Him because He cares for us.

This can be challenging to receive. We are part of a society built on a reward system that promotes individualism and tells us we are responsible for our own problems. However, a believer should be aware that the benefits we receive are predicated on a childlike posture. No matter how old we are, we will always be God's child.

"Truly I say to you, unless you change and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18:3

Starting with the nature of God

So how do we attain kingdom thinking? It's imperative to start by grasping the nature of God. What is His natural inclination toward His creation? God expresses Himself in the details of creation first.

"I was there when he set the clouds above, when he established springs deep in the earth. I was there when he set the limits of the seas, so they would not spread beyond their boundaries." Proverbs 8:27-29

"And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind." Genesis 1:21

"Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?" Matthew 6:26

"And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don't work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are." Matthew 6:28-29

Scripture highlights how He thought out every need for His creation before anything was formed.

"...his works were finished from the foundation of the world." Hebrews 4:3

We are no different

As children of God, we are no different. But it's important to change our thinking from the patterns of a society that deems dependence as weakness and unproductive, when in fact the very opposite is true. The more dependent we become on God, the more we witness His power and provision in our lives.

"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness... For when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

We literally flourish by way of our connection to Him and our dependence on Him.

"I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5

An invitation, not a force

However, this is not forced or automatic. We have to allow it. God wants a heart that is contrite and humbly acknowledges its need for Him.

"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise." Psalm 51:17

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me." Revelation 3:20

If this list of scriptures feels extensive, it's intentional. Scripture stacking is an impactful way to shift your thinking toward God-consciousness.

"So what would it look like to cast the one care you've been carrying alone?
