the plot twist:when we choose to elevate
Updated: Oct 4
There's something very telling about how our experiences in life are intricately and divinely orchestrated, and when left unhindered, we're directed on the path to our highest alignment. In this process, the beauty of choice is something to be valued. The fact is we all are given the innate ability to choose how we respond to what is presented to us. Especially when life places something unexpected on our plate—something unfavorable, unwanted, or so heavy that, for a moment, it feels unbearable. These are the moments when we can either let the waves of our emotions pull us under, or learn to move with the current, go deeper than the surface, and discover that sometimes the very waters that threaten to overwhelm us are carrying us toward the plot twist we never saw coming. Maybe the plot twist isn't that the waters changed. Maybe it's that we did.
“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.…” Isaiah 43:2 NLT
What if the "storm" was designed to teach us not only how to navigate opposition but ultimately become a conquerer and carrier of solutions. Take a moment to consider what it takes to acquire and embody both wisdom and understanding.
"...Though it cost all you have, get understanding (Proverbs 4:7 NIV)"
It's safe to say life's interruptions are subtle invitations to be still and listen even while surrounded by noise. “Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls…”Psalm 42:7 NKJV. Maybe the waters are not only where we learn to survive, but where we discover what was waiting beneath the surface all along.
I know this invitation firsthand. My own season of chaos arrived when I had to pivot in my career, unexpectedly. As a single girlie living in Los Angeles with a strict routine I'd built my life around, it was alarming. It hit me like a ton of bricks, as if I was being uprooted from familiarity. I had no map for this detour, and no one around me who could rightfully advise me on how to navigate these waters. So I practiced stillness to capture the heart of God concerning me, a little more each day. The beach had always been my favorite place to be, and it became my sanctuary, the most serene atmosphere I knew. Sitting at the water's edge, I learned to listen and look inward. In that quiet, I was led to write, first to work through the emotions. Then, unexpectedly, to pick up where I left off a year ago when I launched my site and return to blogging. What a ride. Leaning in and exploring what was hidden beneath the surface gave me a fresh perspective, and what I found was this: I may have abandoned the path God was forming for me by ignoring my gifts. So I'm choosing to find ways to use what He has given me, which brought me back to the most natural forward-moving decision.
And maybe that is the plot twist: realizing what we thought was pulling us under was teaching us how to rise anew.

P.S. Keep an eye out for HEALED—a collection and initiative exploring healing through garments, connection, and the stories we carry. Because while HEALED is a collection of pieces, it’s also a collective of journeys—and sometimes healing happens when we realize we don’t have to walk ours alone.
